CWPA CAMPS
Building the Future of Water Polo
Canberra Water Polo Academy (CWPA) is committed to developing athletes through high-quality, purposeful training opportunities. Over the years, CWPA has hosted a range of development camps, giving athletes access to elite coaching, recruitment pathways, and athlete education.
Our most recent camp, the 6–8 College Showcase and Combine Camp, delivered a high-performance environment led by 5-time Olympian and 6–8 co-founder Tony Azevedo. The camp combined skill testing, gameplay analysis, and targeted athlete development, providing athletes with measurable insights and a clear pathway to progress to the next level.
Another of our recent programs include the USA College Camp – a multi-day camp inspired by American college systems, offering athletes the chance to learn from and connect with US college coaches and recruiters. The camp blended in-water sessions with education on college recruitment, injury prevention, time management, and performance nutrition.
Looking ahead, CWPA will continue its partnership with 6-8 Sports to deliver the 2026 6–8 Sports Performance Camp Series. These camps will build on the success of previous programs, offering athletes across Australia access to elite coaching, modern performance tools, and a well-rounded development experience.
6-8 SPORTS PERFORMANCE CAMP SERIES
The 6–8 Performance Camp Series brings together high-level coaching, modern training methods, and practical performance insights to support athlete development across all areas of the game.
Delivered in partnership with 6-8 Sports, these camps are designed to challenge athletes in a high-performance environment, with a strong focus on skill development, game understanding, and building habits that translate into competition.
Athletes will benefit from:
Elite coaching from current and former Olympians, international players, and experienced coaches
Position-specific training and technical development
Tactical learning and game-based scenarios
Insights into what it takes to perform at higher levels of the sport
With limited spots and small group sizes, the camp environment allows for increased coaching interaction, feedback, and individual development opportunities.

TONY AZEVEDO & 6-8 SPORTS
Widely regarded as the greatest water polo player of all time, Tony is a five-time Olympian and former Captain of Team USA, leading them to a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. He’s the only four-time NCAA MVP and was named the Pac-12 Water Polo Player of the Century in 2015.
Tony’s illustrious professional career took him to Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, and Brazil, where he became one of the most dominant international players in the sport’s history. Now, he’s focused on mentoring the next generation through his camps and academies, helping athletes excel in competitive water polo and prepare for life beyond the game. He also lends his expertise as part of the international commentary team for the World Championships and Olympic Games.
In addition to his ambassador role, Tony is the co-founder of 6-8 Sports, a tech platform he runs with fellow water polo legend Maggie Steffens. 6-8 works to finally bring comprehensive data and analytics to water polo in order to elevate, develop and market the sport worldwide.
"I'm excited to kick off our first 6-8 college showcase camp in Australia! This is for anyone who wants to take their game to the next level and really understand how to train smarter, compete harder, and nail the key elements like nutrition, recovery, and mindset. It’s not just about building better water polo players, it’s about shaping better people, in and out of the water."
